Louie Severson

Artist: JoEllen Sorgdrager, Mural 13, Completed 2005
Location: Second-story window, 204 First Ave.

A self-taught attorney, Louie Severson was admitted to the bar in 1932 and practiced law in Inwood two years before he moved to Rock Rapids.  Here he not only maintained a law ofice, but, as a Democrat, ran unsuccessfully for the county attorney position several times.  He is best known for his statement, "Lots of liars in Lyon County," after each of his defeats.  The sign on the window advertising Louie as a lawyer is original.  He is depicted in what actually was his office, with his signature cigar and hat, looking down on Main Street.
